Dal ka Pitha
Dal pitha is a very popular dish from Bihari cuisine.It is something like Dumplings or momos. Generally people used rice flour, but here I have used wheat flour. We use only 2 Tablespoon oil in the whole recipe. so this can be considered as zero oil recipe.
Lets start the step by step recipe for Dal Pitha :
Ingredients
For The Wheat Dough
- Wheat flour – 1 cup
- White oil – 1 tbsp
- Salt – 2 big pinches
- Water as required for kneading
For The Stuffing
- Chana dal or Bengal gram– 1 cup
- Garlic – 5 to 6 cloves
- Green chilli – 4
- Salt to taste
- Oil – 1 tbsp
- Water as required or enough to cook the pitha easily.
- Coriander leaves (chopped) – 1 ½ tbsp
Method
For The Dough
- Take a big bowl add wheat flour, oil , salt mix well then add water ( as required for kneading) and make into soft dough.
- Cover and keep the dough aside for 10 to 20 minutes.
- After 20 minutes knead the dough again and make dough balls of equal portions.
For Chana Dal
- Soak chana dal in sufficient water for overnight. Wash properly, drain the water and keep it aside.
2. Grind chana dal with cumin seeds, garlic, green chilli and salt to a coarse paste. Don’t add water. Add chopped coriander leaves.
3. Heat water in a thick bottom pan add 1 tbsp oil.
4. Roll the dough ball like a puri.
7. Repeat the process with the rest of the dough.
8. Place it in boiling water and boiled around 5 to 10 minutes or knife comes out clean.
Serving
Serve with lahsun ki chutney, dhaniya ki chutney or tomato ki chutney.

For Chana Dal
- Soak chana dal in sufficient water for overnight. Wash properly, drain the water and keep it aside.
- Grind chana dal with cumin seeds, garlic, green chilli and salt to a coarse paste. Don’t add water. Add chopped coriander leaves.
- Heat water in a thick bottom pan add 1 tbsp oil.
- Roll the dough ball like a puri.
- Place the 1 tbsp dal mixture in the middle of the poori.
- and close (seal the edge properly) the puri.
- Repeat the process with the rest of the dough.
- Place it in boiling water and boiled around 5 to 10 minutes or knife comes out clean.
- Take out the pithas from hot water and let cool.
- Serve with lahsun ki chutney, dhaniya ki chutney or tomato ki chutney.
