This is in series of our pakora (English: Fritters) recipes like Onion Pakora . Pakoras are fried snacks made from two major parts: One, the main ingredient, and other the batter. Main ingredient could be anything from Onion, Potato, Paneer, to chicken and the batter is usually based on Gram flour (Besan) Rice flour or Wheat Flour. Pakoras are a great side dish, and basically part of every Indian families evening snacks.
But Fritters of a flower? Thats strange right? How can a recipe be based on a flower?
This is a fantastic recipe from Bengal, and is known more popularly as Kumro Phooler Bhaja or Kumro Phooler Bora . Try this one and you will be amazed with this crispy and tasty Pakora recipe.
Ingredients
- Pumpkin flowers (kumro phool) – 10
- Gram flour – 100gms or as required
- Rice flour – 1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
- Red chilli powder – ½ tsp
- Salt to taste
- Hot mustard oil – 1 tbsp
- Water
- Oil for frying
Method
Before you do anything, remove the stems and stigma of the flowers. Also chop off the bottom of the pumpkin flower.
Wash and clean properly.
Now on to the main recipe:
- In a bowl add gram flour, rice flour, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt to taste and add water and make a semi thick batter.
- Just make sure the mix is not watery. Add hot oil and mix again.
- separately heat oil for frying in a pan. When oil start smoking that means it is hot enough then reduce the heat to medium.
- Take two flowers at a time. Dip these into the batter and put it in heated oil.
- Cook in medium flame until all sides are golden brown, with the spatula take them out of the oil and place them in a plate.
- Use a paper towel to absorb the extra oil.
- Repeat the process until all the pakoras are made.
- Serve the pakoras hot with tomato sauce or coriander chutney.

- Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
- Red chilli powder – ½ tsp
- Salt to taste
- Hot mustard oil – 1 tbsp
- Water
- Oil for frying
Instructions

- Repeat the process until all the pakoras are made.
- Serve the pakoras hot with tomato sauce or coriander chutney.
